Hi! 👋 I'm Vincent, and I'm in the final stretch of my Master's in AI. My thesis has something to do with robots learning to clean. To train one I need a big, varied set of hotel rooms for it to practise in, and I am running short. Making a thousand of them myself did not sound like fun, so I built this instead: a little editor where you drag furniture around until it looks like a room you wouldn't mind booking yourself. Hoi! 👋 Ik ben Vincent en ik zit in de laatste fase van mijn master AI. Mijn scriptie heeft iets te maken met robots die leren schoonmaken. Om er een te trainen heb ik een grote, gevarieerde verzameling hotelkamers nodig om in te oefenen… En daar kun jij mee helpen! Er zelf duizend maken leek me niet echt geweldig, dus heb ik dit maar in elkaar geknutseld: een editor waarin je meubels rondsleept tot het eruitziet als een kamer waar je zelf wel een nachtje zou willen slapen.

So build a hotel room! The bland one you stayed in last month, or your own place reimagined as a suite. Then my fancy self-made algorithms cover it in filth, and the robot learns to clean up your mess. 🤖🧹 It takes about ten minutes and is just as much fun as building a house in the Sims, except that you would also really be helping me out. Oh, and one more thing: when you send a room in, you can opt in to receive a video of the robot cleaning it. The nicest rooms also end up in the gallery. Dus bouw een hotelkamer! Die saaie waar je vorige maand nog sliep, of je eigen huis omgetoverd tot suite. Daarna vullen mijn eigengemaakte algoritmes hem met vlekken en troep, en leert de robot het weer op te ruimen. 🤖🧹 Het kost ongeveer tien minuten en is net zo leuk als een huis bouwen in de Sims, alleen help je mij er ook nog eens mee. O ja, nog één ding: geef bij het insturen aan dat je een filmpje wilt, dan zie je later hoe de robot jouw kamer poetst! De mooiste kamers komen ook in de galerij.

Look around

drag to orbit, right-drag to pan, scroll to zoom

Put something in

click an item in the left-hand list, then click the floor

Move it

click to select, then drag it — or drag the coloured arms to stay on one axis, and the ring to turn it

Off the grid

hold Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) while placing or dragging

Walls

g draws the outer shell, p an interior wall; drag the dot in the middle of a wall to push it

Undo

Ctrl+Z, and redo with Ctrl+Shift+Z

Rondkijken

sleep om te draaien, rechtersleep om te schuiven, scroll om te zoomen

Iets neerzetten

klik op een item in de lijst links, klik daarna op de vloer

Verplaatsen

klik om te selecteren en sleep het — of sleep de gekleurde armen om op één as te blijven, en de cirkel om te draaien

Buiten het raster

houd Ctrl (Cmd op een Mac) ingedrukt tijdens het plaatsen of slepen

Muren

g tekent de buitenmuren, p een binnenmuur; sleep de stip in het midden van een muur om hem te verzetten

Ongedaan maken

Ctrl+Z, en opnieuw met Ctrl+Shift+Z

Every shortcut is also a button, listed under Shortcuts in the panel, so there is nothing here you have to remember. Elke sneltoets is ook een knop, te vinden onder Shortcuts in het paneel, dus je hoeft hier niets van te onthouden 🤓

Keeping your roomJe kamer bewaren

Press Download and the room is saved to your computer as a small file; Upload — here or in the editor — takes it back. Your browser also keeps a copy as you work, so closing the tab by accident is survivable. That copy lives only in this browser on this device. Druk op Download en de kamer wordt als klein bestand op je computer opgeslagen; met Upload — hier of in de editor — haal je hem weer terug. Je browser bewaart ook een kopie terwijl je werkt, dus als je per ongeluk het tabblad sluit, overleeft 'ie dat wel. Die kopie staat alleen in deze browser op dit apparaat.

When it is finished, Send this room in in the editor sends it to me. I look at every room myself, nothing is published automatically, and you can ask to be credited by whatever name you like. Als hij af is, stuur je hem met Send this room in in de editor naar mij toe. Ik bekijk elke kamer zelf, er wordt niets automatisch gepubliceerd, en je bepaalt zelf of je vermeld wilt worden, en onder welke naam.

You cannot send a room in at the moment. Download what you build and hold on to it. Op dit moment kun je geen kamer insturen. Download wat je bouwt en bewaar het goed.
